A man has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following a police chase in Margate.

Joseph Hernandez, 21, of no fixed address, sped away from officers who had been following his vehicle in the Millmead Road area, shortly after 8am on Sunday 13 August.

He hit speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone in an attempt to lose the patrol car, while also driving on the wrong side of the road and through a red light.

A stinger was used to stop Hernandez’s vehicle and he was arrested soon after in Manston Road.

He appeared before Medway magistrates the following day and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He also admitted making off without payment in connection with the theft of fuel from a petrol station in Ramsgate on Tuesday 2 May.

The case was adjourned for sentencing to be held at Canterbury Crown Court on a date to be determined.
