Police are investigating after thieves targeted vans in Margate and stole tools.

Builders and tradesmen are being reminded not to keep valuable items in their vehicles overnight.

It was reported that a Ford Transit van parked in Argyle Gardens overnight between 6 and 7 August was broken into. Tools including cordless drills and grinders, as well as batteries and a dash camera were stolen.

A Ford Transit van parked in Shottendane Road was also broken into during the same night, and tools were reported stolen.

Inspector Lara Connor said: “Enquiries are ongoing but at this stage we are treating the two thefts as potentially linked.

“We know emptying your van after a busy day at work may be the last thing you feel like doing, but we advise people to remove tools – especially as they can be expensive to replace and the loss can cause disruption to your business.

“It is not just tradesmen who should keep this in mind, all drivers should consider whether they are leaving anything on display in their cars, and make sure the doors are securely locked.

“Don’t give thieves any opportunities to window-shop in your vehicle.”
