A play area fence in Ramsgate that was vandalised on Sunday night has been mended – costing the council £255 in materials and staff time.

The Warre Rec  fencing was only installed two months ago but was targeted in what Thanet council described as a “mindless” act.

Councillor Suzanne Brimm, Thanet District Council Cabinet Member for Operational Services, said: “It’s so disappointing to see this vandalism anywhere, particularly in the children’s play area of a public park.”

“The council has a legal responsibility to enclose play areas and the fence was only installed in May this year. Fortunately the council’s Open Spaces team was able to repair the fence’s damaged sections today and the cost of materials and staff time was approximately £255.”

“Unfortunately this type of vandalism takes place in the evenings and we would ask all local residents to be extra vigilant and to please report any incidents to the police as soon as possible.”
