Thanet’s Bigmouth Choir to make guest concert appearance

Birds and other Stories at the 2017 Pow! Thanet festival

Uplifting and diverse music will resound on Saturday (July 22) when a favourite east Kent choir returns at a concert featuring some excellent Thanet musical talent.

Musical director Emily Peasgood, of Ramsgate, will lead her 60-voice en Choir at their annual concert at St Alphege Church, Whitstable, providing an eclectic blend of soul, rock, pop, world and classical music.

A guest appearance will be made by Emily’s fledgling, but thriving, Margate-based choir, Bigmouth Chorus, and the director promises an evening “of lively, happy music, a real treat.”

The en Choir band, bass player Akos Hazsnos  and Matt Hodge on percussion, will accompany what will be a great musical evening with plenty of “feel good” factor..

Favourite hits from legends like Leonard Cohen, David Bowie and Prince will be in the musical mix, as well as numbers from Michael Jackson, Enya and Guns and Roses.

Audiences will be treated to a rendition of the haunting and tender The Lamb, by 20th Century classical composer John Taverner and roused by Hlohonolofatsa from Africa, sung in the Sesotho language, and well known to fans of the Soweto Gospel Choir.

Fans are urged to buy tickets in advance as any remaining invariably sell out on the door, especially as the concert coincides with Whitstable Oyster Festival.

Emily said: “en Choir have worked tirelessly this year to develop our best concert yet. Choir members have been striving for excellence with some exciting new music.  We are excited to be bringing back our talented house band as well as having Bigmouth Chorus participating.
