Ramsgate Town Team joins up with Southeastern for bike hire project

Ramsgate Recyclists to launch their first scheme

Ramsgate Town Team will be telling people to ‘get on their bike’ with the launch of a new scheme.

The team is working with Southeastern, which is donating 25 unclaimed bicycles from lost and found for the team to restore and then hire out for commuters to use to and from Ramsgate station. The ‘Ramsgate Recyclists’ scheme has been inspired by Broadstairs Town Shed.

It will be for all ages and will include all types of upcycling.

Town Team co-ordinator Rebekah Smith (above) said: “The aim of the project is to get all ages working together, sharing skills, building confidence, gaining friendships and hopefully help people get onto courses or into employment.”

The team are putting out a call to anyone who has left their bike at Ramsgate station to let them know they will have 28 days to collect their bike before it is donated to the project.

Owners will have to go to the station and ask at the ticket office and then give a description of their bike before it is handed over.  Proof of ownership is advised.

Rebekah added: “We are also looking for a building to work out of so if any local businesses have a space/unit we could use for free or at a peppercorn rent, that would be great.”
