Broadstairs is distinctly Dickensian this week!
The 80th Broadstairs Dickens Festival is underway with top hats and crinoline skirts in evidence everywhere.
Whether you want to dress up in Victorian costume or just enjoy a cocktail or a burger on Victoria Gardens, there is something for everyone, from the play Pickwick at the Sarah Thorne theatre to a croquet master class or the Dickens Dog show to a banquet at The Yarrow.
Some of the action has been captured in these fantastic photos by Paul Trindall Photography
As if that is not enough there are plenty of ‘Frolics on the Green’ from face painting and children’s games to a raft of performances by the schools, East Kent College and professional organisations during the week.
Youngsters from Regency Productions, who are staging Oliver at the Margate Winter Gardens next month, have also been performing and were caught on video by Paul Trindall.
There is also a ‘Shop Window’ competition where the public get to select their favourite Dickens theme window out of all the shops and businesses in Broadstairs that are taking part.
Here is a look at the fun on opening day yesterday (June 18) with photos and video from Lorraine Williams.
