Broadstairs Town Team launches First Friday scheme

Join the team and help make Broadstairs beautiful

Broadstairs will get a new regular spruce up as the Town Team launches its First Fridays scheme.

The sessions, where people can take part in volunteer projects from litter picking to maintaining public gardens, start tomorrow (June 2) at 9am.

Anyone who wants to get involved can join the team by meeting them at Broadstairs Railway Station.

The sessions will take place every first Friday of the month from assorted locations in and around Broadstairs.

Wendy Carr, Trustee of Town Team, Gardens Group and Litterpickers said : We have fantastic support from volunteers at many of our events which happen mostly at weekends.

“However, in response to offers of support during the week, we decided to designate one regular weekday session a month at least where those people can join in and support our work in the town.

“That’s where the idea of ‘First Fridays came from. We’ll change location each month depending on where our time is best spent beautifying Broadstairs. All details will be listed on our Facebook page as event listings.”

Denise Martin-Harker, Trustee of Town Team and ‘Station Crew,’ added : We’re a small but dedicated team that maintain the planters and litterpick at the station.

“This first ‘First Friday’ will give us all a chance to join up with the ‘Gardens Group’ and our regular litterpicking volunteers to work together to make a real difference. The car park at the station is in desperate need of a makeover and this Friday will give us a chance to start work at doing just that.

“We’d love to see as many people as can spare an hour come and join our lovely friendly bunch of town proud locals.”
