Free sport and activity sessions will be launching in Margate and Ramsgate for children aged eight and over.
The new svcheme, led by Thanet council’s Sport 4 NRG project will give youngsters and their families a chance to get involved in a variety of free activities.
The ParkLives with StreetGames sessions take place from Thursday, May 25 in Margate, and Friday, May 26 in Newington, Ramsgate. They aim to give participants the chance to have fun and keep active, but also to find out about other ways to lead a healthier lifestyle.
There will be a range of activities at each of the sessions, including: Panna football, volleyball, tug of war, circuit training, mini ParkRuns, basketball, team games, individual challenges and much more.
The sessions will initially run each week until September, but there is potential for them to be a permanent fixture on the Sport 4 NRG calendar.
Colin Rouse, Sport 4 NRG lead and Sports Development Officer at Thanet District Council, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with StreetGames to deliver the ParkLives programme in Thanet. The sessions will utilise some of Thanet’s fantastic parks and open spaces to help local children and their families keep active and learn about how to lead a healthier lifestyle by engaging in sport outdoors.
“The sessions will provide a variety of activities, so no matter what your ability make sure you come along and try something new. The sessions are completely free, so there are no barriers to participating – simply turn up, sign up and get involved.”
A key aim of the ParkLives project is to encourage young people and their families to use their local parks.
