Two men have been charged with a robbery outside Priory Infant School in Ramsgate yesterday (May 15).

The robbery is reported to have taken place at noon when two men – one holding a knife – approached a woman by her car and demanded she hand over her handbag. The assailants took the bag but then dropped it after being yelled at by the victim and bystanders and fled empty-handed.

Shortly after, police received a report of a theft of a Peugeot delivery van from Margate Road, Ramsgate.

The vehicle was later discovered in Princess Margaret Avenue, Ramsgate. Two men were arrested in connection with the incidents.

Police have charged Mark Roy Ellis, 52, and Aaron David Ayres, 37, both of no fixed address,  with robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

They have been remanded in custody and are due to appear before Medway magistrates via virtual court tomorrow (May 17).
