Hilderstone Radio Club scoops regional title

Matt Payne holding one of the new DMR radios

The Hilderstone Radio Club has once again gained first place in the Radio Society of Great Britain regional competition to find club of the year.

The award is recognition of the club’s place at the cutting edge of amateur radio, keeping up with the latest developments in digital technology. The group held the title in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

During the group’s last meeting Matt Payne gave members a fascinating talk on DMR or digital mobile radio which promises clear voice signals with fellow amateurs across the world. Matt has set up a repeater station which enables amateur radio enthusiasts in Thanet to connect into the network.

The radio enthusiasts have done much to educate youngsters and the public in the amazing opportunities of amateur radio.
