Ramsgate has had a cheeky ‘Gormless Antonia’s installation’ – and another arty surprise is planned

Addington Street Community ladies created the Gormless Antonia 'installation'

Margate’s Turner Contemporary has brought the town Tracey Emin’s My Bed and Antony Gormley’s male statue on the chalk bed  at Fulsam Rock.

But Ramsgate is now laying down the gauntlet to be a top art town with its own interpretation of those famous pieces.

Organisers of the Addington Street Fair have posed for a cheeky imitation of the Gormley statue with five of the ladies plunging naked into the sea at the Western Undercliff.

One of the crew, Becky Wing, said: “Margate has Antony Gormley at the Turner. Now we have Gormless Antonia’s at The West Cliff.

“And look out at the fair on Sunday because we have Stacey Fleming and her Made Bed with nice sheets, a Maggie Thatcher mug and a newspaper!”

To check out the bed ‘art’ pop down to the Addington Street Fair on Sunday between 9am and 5pm.
