Margate High Street cordoned off following assault

Police have taped off the top end of Margate High Street following an assault in the early hours of this morning (March 22).

Officers were called at 3.45am and remain at the scene.

A man has been taken to hospital with injuries following the attack. Witnesses say two men attacked him with metal poles.

Kent air ambulance was also called out the the incident. A spokesman said: “At 4.24am today, Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance was called to an assault in Margate but was stood down at scene.”

Enquiries are ongoing and forensic teams were at the scene.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “It was reported a man in his 20s was assaulted and sustained several injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

“A section of High Street was closed but has since reopened. Officers continue to carry out enquiries in the area.
