Nash Road, at the junction with College Road, in Margate will shut for six weeks while gas mains replacement works are carried out.
A signed diversion will be put in place via Ramsgate Road and Star Lane.
There will also be temporary traffic lights in Shottendane Road at the junction with Nash Road and Hartsdown Road which will be manually controlled during peak times.
The work is being carried out by SGN in a £500,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Shottendane Road area. The work involves the replacement of old metal gas mains with modern plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.
Following discussions with Kent County Council and Thanet District Council, the project will start on Monday 24 July.
SGN will be working in Empire Terrace, Hartsdown Road, Nash Road and Shottendane Road for approximately six weeks.
SGN said: “We’ll be doing everything we can to minimise disruption during our essential work. We’ll be working seven days a week to finish this work as quickly and safely as possible, as well as working extended hours Monday to Saturday.
“We’ve planned to carry out this project during the school summer holiday, when the roads are traditionally quieter, to reduce inconvenience to the local community.
“We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Margate residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.”
