A mole screening service is being offered in Broadstairs

Pierremont Pharmacy will hold a sun protection awareness day

A skin cancer and sun protection awareness day will be held at the Pierremont Pharmacy in Broadstairs on Tuesday.

The independent pharmacy is one of only two east Kent, and the only Thanet store, offering a mole screening service.

A Pierremont spokesman said: “Many people still go on holiday at this time of year and often feel that because “summer’s nearly over” the sun’s rays are somehow not as strong and no cause for alarm. In addition, people often forget to check their moles for any changes too so we thought we would combine the two and make an event of it and also be on hand if anyone had any questions about the mole screening service.

“There is very low awareness of the risks of skin cancer and it can affect people of all ages but if detected early, and treatment sought, lives can be saved. That is why this mole screening pilot has been put into place, with a view to educating consumers and raising awareness of the availability of the service within the pharmacy.

“Any mole causing concern can be scanned in the pharmacy using the latest imaging technology to capture the depth and shape of it. The images are then sent for analysis by a private ScreenCancer dermatologist and you then receive the results within two weeks.”

Pierremeont Pharmacy, which also celebrates its 10th anniversary next week, will hold the event on Tuesday from 9.30am to 2pm.
