Ramsgate mayor Raushan Ara and Harbour Street Traders will offer food and music for Cultural Diversity Day

Ramsgate Mayor Cllr Raushan Ara and town traders will be bringing Harbour Street to life with a vibrant showcase of global cuisine on Thursday (May 21).

The date is the UN World Day for Cultural Diversity, promoting connection and community. The event in Ramsgate will reflect the rich mix of people who live and work in the town.

Harbour Street Traders together with Thanet Ukrainian Community and Ramsgate Tamil Temple, are marking the day with a street fair and free tasters from the bars and restaurants.

The town welcomes visitors and new residents from across the globe and with them the diverse variety of food and music has followed, with Harbour Street offering foods from England, India, Jamacia and Italy.

There will also be international music for people to enjoy.

The event runs from noon to 2pm.

  2. i could not have summed it better P ! , i feel your comments are spot on ,no matter how they try to big up this place , its still Ramsgate . and one of the most deprived dumps in the country .

  3. Well, for those of us who happen to live in Ramsgate – this sounds great! Not every initiative is about “bigging up the place”. Sometimes it’s just nice to meet your neighbours and share some food and experience something new. I live in the town centre, and yes, the situation is quite shocking here at times. But life goes on, and I’m looking forward to this.

    • Spot on Liz! Anyone with an ounce of sense knows every town has social issues. But organising events like this bring people together and help sustain the community.
      And we have so many things in our town to celebrate, the fair at Elly Park last weekend, the Little Ships this weekend, community cinema last night and on Friday, literary festival at the Falstaff, etc.
      People moan and bad-mouth the town but they could get involved instead and experience togetherness.

    • Good for you Liz. I lived in Ramsgate from 1996-2011 and visit often. The more events for people to enjoy, together, the better. Great weather for you today, too.
