Reports of intimidation, fights, and assaults across five separate incidents resulted in police implementing dispersal powers in Ramsgate over the weekend.
Officers were alerted Saturday (18 April) evening after the Force Control Room received several calls from members of the public reporting nuisance behaviour involving groups of young people in the town centre and on the seafront.
The disorder was concentrated around King Street, with reports of intimidation, fights, and assaults.
Officers attended the area and, following enquiries, implemented a 48-hour dispersal order. The order granted officers additional powers to to tell individuals causing harassment, alarm, or distress to leave the area and powers to arrest them should they return.
Patrols also visited multiple businesses after reports that large groups of young people were causing disturbances both inside and outside premises along the High Street. Members of the public assisted officers in identifying the individuals involved as the same group linked to previous incidents that evening.
Officers spoke with several young people who were seen to be acting antisocially. Their details were taken and they were warned that anyone who was found in the town after being told to leave would be arrested.
In total, eight young people acting antisocially were removed from Ramsgate town centre under the dispersal powers and officers also seized an e‑bike which was being ridden in an erratic manor.
Thanet Inspector Matthew Vick said: “During busy school holiday periods, our officers have remained proactive and visible to ensure Thanet continues to be a safe place for everyone.
“Recent dispersal orders in Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Westwood Cross have given us the tools to deter antisocial behaviour and maintain an environment where residents and visitors can feel secure.”

I agree, totally with “real world”s contribution. I truly do not understand why people refuse to see what’s happening around them. The only way to change things is to recognise reality and then start doing something about it. I fully accept Labour and the Conservative & Unionist parties are not the answer. We may have to suspend democracy for a period of time until the country is restored. I am aware some people will be shocked by that statement. But as law and order plus Christian civilisation has broken down in this country. Something has to change.
Democracy is supposed to equate to equality, yet (especially in Thanet) young people are being exhorted to ever greater expectations, whilst living in financial and social poverty. With access to the global news, they know that financial riches (as well as mass murder, rape ,eg Gaza , Epstein) are part of the privileged classes to whom they can never aspire to be part of.They are disenfranchised.

Me too,but their music is hatefilled (C)Rap , and their generation was brought up to ‘read’ picture stories from their phones.I am not an apologist for bad behaviour, but just look at the world they have been raised in, and now they’re being told that they’re likely to be exterminated in WW3….
People have been blaming music since at least the days of Bill Haley, and with the Cuban missile crisis and Vietnam, the ’60s were just as volatile as now.
Not that old chestnut-kids in my era were listening to Howard Jones & Bucks Fizz & were still acting like hoodlums, before that is was the Sex Pistols & Stranglers to blame for all the woes of society. The decade before it was Hendrix, Stones & Beatles. Go right back to how Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis & Gene Vincent were supposedly corrupting the youth of the 1950’s & of course they were influenced by the blues & jazz artists who were held up as the creators of moral destruction & drink & drug issues by the likes of Harry Anslinger.
I think you will find they are actually listening to what is termed as drill-the roots are in rap & hip-hop, but in reality it has as much to do with the rap music I was hearing in the 1980’s & 1990’s as the supposed modern country of Shania Twain & Garth Brooks have to Patsy Cline & Hank Williams.

I don’t believe for one moment that “Crime is actually overall far lower than it has been in past decades”. The difference is that people get away with crime more – shoplifting and the smell of dope everywhere are two examples of that.

yes dave ,but i dont suppose for one minute the punishment will fit the crime even if the little toe rags are ever caught , the full force of the law should come down on them , but no doubt some dogooder will dream up an excuse for this awful crime ?
Well-the assault on the chap will likely carry a stiff sentence, but people are hardly going to be locked up for years for the usual juvenile nonsense like shouting at people, knocking some chairs over & suchlike are they?
Were they from Ramsgate, or Thanet come to that? I can remember similar riots taking place in Brighton during the 60’s, between Mods & Rockers, none of them came from Brighton!
Starving illiterate teens running amok in town centres in poor districts inviting trouble but with that protection of police leniency?
Counterbalance that with most here: indifferent boomers lamenting the good ol’ days when a thick ear was all that was needed to right all societal wrongs. All while reporting it from MacBooks in a posh edge-of-town 5-bed, replete with that 3rd decent glass of merlot sitting pretty nearby.
