Thieves have targeted Ramsgate cemetery twice, ripping out taps, copper piping, stealing a baby’s memorial bench and vandalising the public toilets.
The thefts and vandalism took place over two weekends earlier this month.
Metal taps were taken from the water butts, copper ripped out from under the staff area leading the water spraying out and pipes were taken from the toilets, also leading to flooding.
The incidents have been reported to police and Thanet council is now gathering quotes for repairs to the damage.
A Thanet council spokesperson said: “Incidents of theft and vandalism are always very disappointing.
“Over two consecutive weekends, unfortunately there has been vandalism at Ramsgate cemetery. This has involved the removal of taps, roof tiles and copper piping from the toilets and other buildings at the site.
“The incident has been reported to the police, who are investigating. We are now in the process of seeking quotes for necessary repairs to restore the damaged items and buildings.”
Kent Police has been asked for further details.
An onsite welfare unit was relocated from Ramsgate Cemetery to Dane Park earlier this month but TDC says the number of hours spent at the cemetery has not changed.
Thanet council’s Bereavement Services Team and the Parks and Open Spaces team are responsible for the maintenance of the isle’s cemeteries in Ramsgate and Margate. The service has recently undergone some change with the recruitment of a new Bereavement Services Manager sought last December.
