A sensory garden has been created at The Veterans Association in Birchington and everyone is invited to its official opening this Saturday (May 3).

The thoughtfully crafted garden has been developed to support the mental wellbeing of veterans and the wider community. It offers a peaceful retreat filled with nature and calming features. With cherry blossoms in bloom, natural wood seating, and a flowing water feature, it’s a space for reflection, connection, and healing.

The garden is the latest addition to the Veterans Community Hub in Surrey Gardens, a space dedicated to ensuring veterans of all ages have access to support, community, and somewhere they can feel at home.

The centre opened in November 2023 after the former GP surgery building  underwent a complete renovation.

Aaron Short, Director of Business & PR, said:“This isn’t just about planting trees and putting up benches, it’s about planting the idea that healing and peace belong to everyone who walks through these gates.

“This garden reflects our values, creating lasting support for our veterans and showing up for the community in a real way.”

The opening takes place this Saturday 3rd May, from 10am to 2pm.

The ribbon cutting will be performed by the Margate Mayor and Mayoress at noon. There will be live entertainment from 50s & 60s singer Laura Watson, a stand-up performance by singer and comedian McGill, Bella’s Pie & Mash pop-up and BBQ and a community raffle.
