A court has jailed a Ramsgate man and banned him from drinking outside in public due to his behaviour.
Josh Saunders was arrested on 17 January after he was seen trying the door handles of a vehicle that wasn’t his in Ramsgate. He was arrested again after carrying out a similar offence on 26 February.
He had previously been arrested on 9 May 2024 after he damaged a shop board in Ramsgate and was found to be in possession of cocaine. While under arrest he then damaged a police van later the same day.
Saunders, 24, of Bradley Road, Ramsgate, was arrested and charged with multiple offences relating to vehicle interference, criminal damage and possession of cannabis and cocaine.
He admitted the offences and was jailed for 100 days at Margate Magistrates’ Court on March 7.
On Tuesday 8 April officers successfully applied at Margate Magistrates’ Court for further action to be taken against Saunders and on his release from prison, he will be subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order for two years.
The order states Saunders cannot drink alcohol in public in Thanet, other than inside a licensed premises.
He is also prevented from entering Ramsgate High Street unless he has an appointment which has been agreed in advance in writing. If he breaches the order at any time, he is liable to a fine or further time in prison.
Police Constable Michelle Sherwood said: “Josh Saunders has caused issues in and around Ramsgate High Street including verbal abuse and assault, while under the influence of alcohol.
“He has a history of offending in Thanet including criminal damage, assault, possession of class B drugs and these are all offences that will have a negative effect on the community around him. ‘I hope the order will make him reconsider his actions in future, but if he tries to continue his bad behaviour, he will very likely find himself back before the courts.”

All drinking should be banned outside. And smoking. And dogs. And children. And anyone smelly.
