Staff at Monkton Primary School have taken part in a Staff Poetry Slam, performing in front of students from Reception to Year 6.
The theme for the event centered around New Year’s Resolutions, with staff delivering a variety of poems that ranged from humorous to heartfelt, all designed to inspire the children to write more poetry and explore their creative potential.
Miss Debling, the school’s Writing Leader, said: “We want to motivate children to pick up a pen and write. We chose New Year’s Resolutions as there’s scope for the theme to be funny but also poignant. The staff performed their poems superbly and there was lots of laughter and some tears.”
The children were captivated by the staff’s performances, which brought the poems to life in a way that encouraged the young audience to express themselves through their own writing. Year 3 pupil Adeline shared her thoughts on the event: “The poetry slam was really good. All the poems had their own personality as some were funny, but some were also very sweet.”
Due to its overwhelming success, the poems from the Staff Poetry Slam will be published in a special staff book of creative writing, which will be displayed in the school library for children to enjoy and gain further inspiration from.
