Legendary singer Roger Daltrey has announced a headline concert performance at Dreamland as part of the Margate Summer Series.
He will perform different takes on classic The Who songs and solo hits. Accompanied by his 9-piece band, the singer will play Dreamland Margate on Friday 8th August. Tickets go on sale on Friday 6thDecember.
He’ll be joined by a host of special guests including Ocean Colour Scene.
The news follows the announcement of a solo tour in April and May with his acclaimed group, made up of regular The Who collaborator Simon Townshend (guitar/ vocals) alongside John Hogg (bass), Doug Boyle (guitar), Steve Weston (harmonica), Jody Linscott (percussion), Billy Nicholls (BV), Katie Jacoby (violin), Geraint Watkins (keyboard) and Scott Devours (drums).
Roger said: “After touring the US with this band of phenomenal musicians, I can’t wait to get back on the road in the UK with these shows. It’s a joy to be on stage performing and sharing familiar songs in an unfamiliar way.”
Daltrey’s 50-year solo career began with the single ‘Giving It All Away’ in 1973, reaching number 5 in the UK charts. His most recent album was 2018’s acclaimed top10 hit As Long As I Have You. One of the great British rock bands, The Who produced classics including ‘My Generation’, ‘Pinball Wizard’ and ‘Baba O’Riley’.
In 2024, Daltrey bowed out as figurehead for the Teenage Cancer Trust after 24 years – during which time he raised around £34 million with star-studded concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. He remains Honorary Patron of the charity and an active campaigner on their behalf.
This year also saw Daltrey contributing a harmonica part for Mark Knopfler’s all-star Guitar Heroes take on his song ‘Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)’ – released in aid of the charity, which builds and operates specialised wards for teenagers with cancer. The recording featured everyone from Slash to Joan Armatrading to Roger’s The Who counterpart and guitarist Pete Townshend.
The concert is 14+ with anyone under 18 needing to be accompanied by an adult {18+}.

Not really a coup. Dreamland simply contacted his agent and agreed a fee within set parameters the agent has in place.
Roger Daltrey is a rock legend and rock royalty so it IS a coup,that he is playing Dreamland next summer .
A bit of The Who trivia …. Pete Townsend told in his autobiography that when he was six that he was sent by his parents from London to live with his grandmother , in Cuthbert Road, Westgate on Sea . Unfortunately it wasn’t a happy period in his life and it’s believed it influenced his writing of the rock opera “ Tommy”.

Anyone who likes rock autobiographies, Ian Hunter’s Diary of a Rock n Roll Star is one of the best in the genre 👌
Absolutely! A real favourite of mine (surprise, surprise!) is Cilla Black’s, but one of the worse is Sandie Shaw’s – some great stories, that badly needed a decent editor. I’m currently reading Billy J. Kramer’s, and he just comes across as whiny and weak.
In Ian McLagen’s book, there’s a chapter called ‘The dark side of the moon’, about the grief he had with Keith. Quite shocking!
Haven’t read that yet, though I did read Kenney Jones’ book (not bad at all).
