Body Art – The tattoo in photography

Ramsgate actor, writer and photographer Peter Barnett’s exhibition featuring an exploration of tattoos.
Peter said: “I used a lot of friends and received lots of recommendations and have captured some interesting shots. So many people expressed an interest, I think I’ll have to do a follow up show.
“The local tattoo galleries were really pleased that this art form was being given a platform as a photography exhibition. I even flew to Spain to interview and photograph a guy who spent £10k having his whole body tattooed!
“The seven years that Lizzie and I had art exhibitions in the gallery, this art form was never represented, so I thought I’d do it! I’m also interested in the psychology behind having them done.”

Meet the author- Nick Evans
Eager fans of Thanet’s nostalgia have a chance to meet author Nick Evans in Westgate this weekend when he will be signing copies of his latest book.
Nick will be ready, with pen in hand, to chat to anybody buying copies of his book A Salute To Margate’s Winter Gardens, at Westgate Galleria, Station Road, Westgate, from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 12 October.
A Salute To Margate’s Winter Gardens includes photographs of its construction and the wide range of events held there. A colour section features Winter Gardens posters produced between the 1950s and the 1970s.
Copies of the book are also on sale at The Eclectic Art Gallery, Broad Street, Margate; Lovelys Art Gallery, Northdown Road, Cliftonville; and No3 Cards & Gifts in York Street, Broadstairs. Online sales via the books section of www.shorelinepartners.co.uk.

Kent artist Eric Honzek displaying works in a variety of mediums, from painting to sculptures.
Eric previously worked in the graphics industry producing works for clients including Max factor, Cadbury’s and the BBC. Alongside this he has been creating paintings and drawings for some 50 years.
A meet the artist session will be held at the York Street Gallery between1pm and 4pm on Saturday 12th October where Eric will be on hand to answer any questions about his work.

Magical Materials
Would you like to stick your head in a cloud, smash a banana or shatter some flowers?
You’ll have the chance to do just that, this Saturday 12th October, at Discovery Planet’s spectacular Magical Materials workshop.
You can learn all about astonishing atoms and energy, and find out exactly what liquids, solids and gasses are.
Sessions take place at Discovery Planet HQ, 47 High Street, Ramsgate, CT11 9AG on the hour, every hour, from 10am to 3pm, which is when the last one starts.
As usual, all sessions are free to take part in. There is no need to book – just drop in.
As a guide, the sessions are suitable for ages 8-108, but all ages welcome and will have a lot of fun.

Westgate-on-Sea Heritage Centre
Saturday,12th October, Sally Whitworth will be talking about ‘Winters in Westgate-on-Sea’ through the years.

Cliftonville Walk

Robin Colyer will be leading a local history walk on behalf of Margate Civic Society – discovering the history of a Victorian seaside suburb which was developed for more genteel holiday makers.

Now in its 24th year, EKOH (East Kent Artists Open Houses) has gone from strength to strength with more artists than ever – now over 250 artists spread over 80 houses and studios across East Kent.
The Artists’ Trail gives the public a personal insight into how an artist works within their specialised field. It opens up a wealth of information and interest to pave the way for making new contacts and discovering opportunities for anyone interested in taking up new fields of creativity.
The Trail is your chance to visit artists in their homes, to speak to them in person about their work and to find out what is happening in your local area. This is a rare opportunity to experience a diverse array of high quality work in a relaxed setting; with so many venues to choose from there should be something for everyone.

Linda McCann talk with recollections of shows gone by, costume disasters and triumphs, and working with “the stars” as their personal dresser.
Linda will bring along an array of costumes and accessories to highlight and demonstrate just what goes into designing and making anything and everything involved in costuming a show, play, pageant etc.
She will also divulge personal stories of dealing with delicate stars and truculent directors. You’ll have a chance to ask your burning questions about stage and screen as well as the obligatory photo opportunity wearing any costume that takes your fancy.
