Ramsgate cafe boss pledge to provide meals on Boxing Day for people in need

Rio is gifting meals for people in need

Big-hearted Ramsgate café boss Rio Bilgic will be again dishing up free dinners over the Christmas holiday to people who are homeless and in need.

The dad-of-two, who lives in Margate, will be opening the doors of Rio’s café restaurant in Grange Road on Boxing Day and says he can cover between 150-200 people for breakfast, sandwiches or lunches between 8am and 3pm.

Rio, 39, says he will also arrange for a delivery driver to take food to those who can’t get to the café.

Last year Rio also served up dinners at Christmas and says the plan is to provide meals every year.

He said: “I will be open on Boxing Day to homeless people and people in need from 8am to 3pm. I can cover around 150 to 200 people for breakfast, teas, coffee, sandwiches, lunch, burgers, shepherd’s pie etc.

“Anyone who needs help will be allowed to come and eat as much as they want. I also will be arranging a driver to do delivery locally for people who cannot come to us, so this is for homeless people, elderly people and people who are struggling.”

Rio has headed up the café – formerly Beano’s – for three-and-a-half years but  has been in catering for more than 20 years with venues previously in Ramsgate and Sandwich.

He came to the UK from Turkey as a student at Canterbury College, first working in takeaways and restaurants until finally having his own venues.
