Hundreds of Thanet properties hit by power cut

UK Power Networks

Hundreds of properties in the Ramsgate, Dumpton and Broadstairs area have been hit by a power cut.

UK Power Networks was alerted to the outage at approximately 1.15pm.

Initially  affecting 1271 properties, power has been restored to some but 504 are still affected.

A UKPN notice says: “Our engineers are on their way. We believe the issue is a fault on our underground network that initially interrupted power to 1271 properties.

“However, we have managed to divert power back to some properties, so 504 properties are still affected. Specialist engineers from our control room will continue to divert power remotely, so power may come back on at any point.

“Sometimes we can’t restore everyone this way, so we’re also sending staff to check our equipment.

“We’re currently estimating power will be on by 4pm-5pm, but this may change depending on what our staff find.”

Update: Engineers are now on site, carrying out investigations into the fault. Once they have completed their assessment, they will carry out repairs.

Update 2.30pm: There are now 181 properties still affected by the fault on the underground network, as they have managed to safely divert some power, getting the lights back on for 323 of customers.

Update 3pm: Power has now been restored to all properties
