Talented youngsters from 1st St Lawrence Scout Group have used their skills to win a camping and a cooking competition.

The Scout group, which is headquartered in Nethercourt and part of Thanet District Scouts, caters for some 150 young people aged four to 18.

Last weekend the Troop took part in the Adutt Camping Competition and Camp Cooking Competition.

Group Lead Volunteer Julian Hewitt said: “We entered a team of six Scouts into the competitions and we were successful in winning both competitions and were presented with trophies by the District Team members.

“The Adutt Camping Competition is a competition where the Scouts have to demonstrate correct camping practices pitching and sleeping in tents, preparing and cooking all meals on an open fire, pioneering and challenge tasks.

“For the Camp Cooking Competition, Scouts had to prepare and cook a three course meal on an open campfire, they were required to produce the three courses with the emphasis on using foil parcel.

“The main course needed to be a hot course and either the starter or dessert needed to be served hot. Our team cooked creamy garlic mushrooms on French toast. The main course was cod parcels with cherry tomatoes and fresh herbs and a squeeze of lemon. The dessert was a blueberry mess, with meringue, fresh whipped cream and lemon curd.  The judges described their meal as gourmet!

“My fellow leaders and I are very proud of them and their achievements.”
