A harvest of kindness and caring has produced a mini mountain of food for needy families and individuals thanks to Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate.

Pupils, families and staff donated an array of packets and tins of food as well as fresh fruit that will be distributed via Thanet Food Link.

The school held four harvest celebrations –for Reception and Year 1; Year 2 and Year 3; Year 4 and Year 5; and Year 6 which parents were invited to attend.

During these festivities children sang a range of harvest songs from Cauliflowers Fluffy to the Harvest Samba. They also showed off their art work and read acrostic poems, and shared their learning about how harvest is celebrated in different countries around the world from Mexico to Argentina.

Head of School Alex McAuley said: “Our Harvest Festival assemblies for pupils and families were uplifting events for our school community.

“Chilton is always keen to support charities and worthwhile causes, and we are happy to help out those who need food that will be distributed by Thanet Food Link.

“At our assemblies we sang harvest celebration songs and focussed on the need to help those less fortunate than ourselves. This ethos underpins one of the many core values our children learn throughout their school life with us.

“Once again we were overwhelmed with donations. It is a positive thing for our children to know that they can help make life a little brighter for some families and individuals who need support.

“It was the first opportunity we’ve had to come together as a school community this academic year. We were so proud of how the children spoke in front of a large audience and how beautifully they sang.”

Thanet Food Link is a registered charity. Its website states: “Anyone who finds themselves in need of food can attend one of our distribution points during the specified opening hours. Agencies who work directly with people in need including children’s centres, support agencies, schools, associations supporting disabled people, community centres and NHS health trainers may also send people to us.

“After registering, we provide them and those in their household with a minimum of three days emergency food. Thanet Food Link is proud to have served the local community for over 10 years.”
