Wellesley Haddon Dene received a Gold Wilder Kent Award and an Eco Schools Green Flag with distinction

Wellesley Haddon Dene School in Broadstairs has received a Gold Wilder Kent Award and an Eco Schools Green Flag with distinction, recognising its commitment to environmental sustainability, conservation and educational leadership in eco-friendly practices.

The Gold Wilder Kent Award acknowledges organisations that demonstrate exceptional stewardship of natural resources and contribute significantly to conservation efforts in Kent.

The award recognises Wellesley Haddon Dene’s dedication to creating spaces for nature, including bug hotels and hedgehog hideaways, reducing its carbon footprint, and advocating sustainability within the community.

Headteacher Lisa Harries said: “Receiving the Gold Wilder Kent Award reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental conservation. We are deeply honoured to be recognised for our work in protecting Kent’s natural heritage.”

In addition to the Gold Wilder Kent Award, Wellesley Haddon Dene has also achieved the Eco Schools Green Flag, an internationally recognised accolade granted to schools and organisations that implement effective environmental education and sustainability programs.

“Our team is thrilled to receive the Eco Schools Award,” said Mrs Harries. “It reflects the hard work of our students, staff, and the community in creating a space where environmental awareness and action are at the forefront of education. We believe that teaching sustainable practices at a young age helps shape responsible, eco-conscious leaders for the future.”
