Woman arrested and postman flown to London hospital following incident in Margate

A man has been flown to King’s hospital in London after being hit by a vehicle in Margate this morning (January 6).

Police were called at 10.42am to reports a car had hit a pedestrian and other vehicles in College Road.

The pedestrian, a postman in his 50s, suffered serious injuries and has been airlifted to the hospital.

A 43-year-old woman from Margate has been arrested on suspicion of drink/driving and is currently in police custody.

Part of College Road in Margate was closed by police.at the Durban Road and Rosedale Road end of College Road. The AA reported the road closure as running from Hastings Avenue up to the A255 St Peters Road.

Work colleague Gary Taylor said Royal Mail employees were shocked by the incident. He said: “We are certainly all shocked at Margate delivery office. We all wish our colleague a full recovery.”

UPDATE: The family of postman Vince Marsh, who was injured in the incident this morning, have thanked people for their good wishes. Son Rodney said his dad, from Birchington, has serious head and leg injuries but is now conscious and awaiting hospital results.
