Westwood Cross Shopping Centre has announced its local charity partner for 2017/18. The centre will be fundraising in support of The Gap Project.
The Broadstairs charity works to relieve poverty, improve family relationships and advance educational opportunities for disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the community.
Based at Queens Road Baptist Church, the charity has groups for older people, children, a homeless drop-in centre, specialist activities and help for education and training.
The centre presented The Gap Project with a cheque for £1,500 at an awards earlier this year and selected them as their charity of the year in order to continue the support.
Francesca Donovan, centre manager at Westwood Cross, said: “This important local charity provides much needed support to around 1,000 people each week through their facility at Queens Road Baptist Church in Broadstairs.
“We are looking forward to continuing our work throughout the coming year with a calendar of fundraising initiatives as well as the kind Wishing Well donations made by guests to the shopping centre.”
Westwood Cross has kicked off activities with this year’s Easter egg collection, where 67 eggs were donated by generous shoppers and delivered to under-privileged families in the area.

The centre is an important landmark within the local community and the team have been keen to learn more about the services we provide and come up with creative fundraising ideas.”
The Gap Project provides invaluable services for under-fives and deprived families, young people with poverty of opportunity, the homeless and insecurely housed, isolated older people and those with special needs, mental health issues and long-term conditions.
