Vile child abuser jailed for rape and assault offences in Thanet dating back 40 years

Abuser William Wilson jailed for 22 years

Victims of sexual abuse offences dating back to the 1970s have finally had justice served after a man who repeatedly abused them was sentenced to 22 years.

William Wilson, 61 and formerly of Westbrook Avenue in Margate, committed offences including rape against two girls in the Thanet area between 1976 and 1986.

He pleaded not guilty but was convicted by the jury and was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 9 February.

The court heard that the offences were committed against two girls, aged under 16 at the time.

The seven charges consisted of four counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault and a sexual assault.

Detective Constable Susan Kingsnorth said: “The victims of this case have lived the majority of their lives deeply impacted by Wilson’s perverse and predatory offending.

“He found himself in a position where he had a significant amount of control of the victims and exploited them for his own desires.

“I welcome the sentence that Wilson has been handed and hope that this may encourage other victims of non-recent abuse to come forward so that we can support them and bring the offenders to justice.”

  1. Abuse and rape, especially of the young, is a form of the most vicious, selfish, psychic murder. He may still be out in his early 80s with some time for a bit of a life; his victims have to live with his actions every day.

  2. How do you prove ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ that this happened? It’s hard enough proving that something happened recently, but decades later? Guess this is another case where the ‘victims’ statement is the evidence. And of course no one ever lies for financial gain or revenge. Not saying that this is the case here but it makes you think.
