Victory for Broadstairs 1st XI

Broadstairs 1st XI continued their promising start to the season with a win over Chestfield in a gripping contest.

In damp conditions that favoured the bowlers, Chestfield quickly found themselves  under pressure with Broadstairs’ opening attack of Chris Flint and Elliot Fox reducing the visitors to 17-3 in the 7th over with Flint claiming all three wickets. The wickets continued to fall as captain Chris Kidd and Swaroop Dasari  took over bowling responsibilities and when Dylan Hunter was removed by Dasari for 51 and the score was 76-5, a low total looked to be on the cards.

However, despite the best attempts of bowlers Matthew Frewin, Jamie Dewell and Masoud Rangin, Chestfield rallied and ended their innings all out for 167 in the 46th over with stand-out bowling  performances from  Dasari (3-18) and  Flint (3-21).

Conditions were little easier and Broadstairs mounted their reply. Both openers (Fox and Dasari) were dismissed in quick succession but a series of partnerships between Andrew Bailey (19), Scott Narraway (23), Flint (49) and Frewin (25) brought Broadstairs back into contention.

Having starred with the ball, Flint dug deep and showed superb composure and when he was eventually dismissed, Broadstairs had reached 135-6. It was down to Frewin, Alfie Huntley and Dewell to see the hosts home and in a tense finale, Huntley (16) and Dewell (10)  reached the target with 16 balls to spare.

The victory puts Broadstairs in 5th place in Division 2 with a stern test awaiting them  next week when they travel to unbeaten league leaders St Lawrence and Highland Court
