Upton pupils celebrate Easter in an egg-cellent way

Upton pupils have been celebrating Easter

A cracking programme of events ensured an eggsellent Easter at Upton Junior School in Broadstairs.

Year 3 pupils showed their artistic skills by decorating eggs in a creative setting with entries including Harry Potter, Mr Men characters, spiders and the more traditional Easter chicks and bunnies.

Head of Year 3  Fran Hare-Winton said: “In the spirit of Easter, the children had the opportunity to bring in a decorated, hard-boiled egg to display in school.

“The eggs could be decorated in anyway the children chose from the egg-streme to the egg-stravagant. For eggs-ample, some children selected traditional spring designs, some used egg-straordinary egg puns or made film characters, famous people, book characters or even teachers. The entries have been absolutely egg-squisite.”

Colourful hand-made Easter bonnets were also on show with  entries from all year groups, while an after-school outdoor Easter egg trail for children and families also gave them the chance to play on the bouncy castle or get revved up on the pedal go karts.

During the last week of term before the Easter break Year 6 pupils also took part in a series of workshops called Easter Cracked, exploring the various spiritual and religious aspects of Easter with Rev Rhodri Walters at the Queen’s Road Baptist Church in the town.

A singing assembly, bread-making day and the annual spring concert also took place before school shut for the Easter break.

Upton Junior School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Chilton Primary School and Ramsgate Free School.
