Three men jailed after Broadstairs house party ‘affray’

The McGills and Harper have been jailed

Three men have been jailed after causing more than £5,000 of damage at a house in Broadstairs.

On Saturday 4 June, 2016 at about 3am, Ian McGill, 50 his son Charlie, 18 and their friend Conor Harper, 21 entered a property in Fairfield Road, Broadstairs to pick someone up following a house party.

She made a call to Charlie to say that her eyebrow had been shaven off while she slept and wanted to be picked up.

When the men arrived at the house, they began to shout at the teenagers inside, demanding to know who shaved the girl’s eyebrow off. Some of the teenagers were punched and kicked.

The trio then smashed up the room, breaking ornaments and a television.

Ian had also used a knife to threaten a teenager during the incident.

All three were arrested and pleaded not guilty to affray and criminal damage. Ian also pleaded not guilty to possession of an offensive weapon. All were found guilty Canterbury Crown Court on 8 December.

Ian McGill from Hereson Road, Ramsgate, was jailed for three years, Charlie McGill from Dane Court Road, Margate was jailed for 18 months and Conor Harper from Southwood Gardens, Ramsgate was jailed for 18 months.

Investigating officer, Police Constable Nicholas Derrane said: “They caused a lot of damage to an innocent person’s home, assaulting further innocent people in the process who did not deserve to be treated in this way.

“I hope they use the time in prison to reflect on their actions.”
