Three kittens have been rescued from a rubble bag on a Ramsgate building site

The trio are now in the care of Thanet RSPCA

Three tiny kittens have been rescued from a builder’s rubble bag in Ramsgate.

The trio, all boys which are around three weeks old, were found in the bag on a building site in Marden Avenue today (October 10).

They are now being cared for by the Thanet branch RSPCA at the animal centre in Woodchurch. Staff at the animal care group hope to be able to catch the mum so she can nurture her brood but are able to hand rear the kittens if necessary.

Thanet RSPCA centre manager Clive Martin said: “They were clearing the site out when they found the kittens in a builder’s bag. The people on the site were aware of the mum and are going to try and catch her. If not we will put a cat trap down.

“Ideally they will be fed by mum but we do have an experienced team that has hand-reared kittens from a few minutes old.”

The kittens will get their first vaccination at 9 weeks old and will then be available for rehoming.  They will also be chipped, de-flead and wormed. Their new owners will need to get the second vaccination at 12 weeks and then follow up with an appointment for neutering. All of this is heavily subsidised by the branch and included in the £80 adoption fee.

Mr Martin said neutering is vital to prevent more stray kittens needing care.

He said: “Neutering is so important. We have a mobile clinic at the centre at least twice a month. The charge is £5 for a male, including chipping, and £25 for a female with micro chip and health check.

“The neutering service which covers the south east neuters around 1,000 cats a year. Since our animal centre opened in September 2007 we have had 1,500 cats neutered. It’s about prevention and being pro-active and so is really core to what we do.”
