The Ravensgate Arms in Ramsgate will reopen next month.

The King Street boozer shut on May 20 after Thanet council revoked its licence.

The action was taken against the premises, which opened in 2014, following a request from Kent Police.

The move outraged many regulars who were disgusted at the severity of the penalty and questioned why the pub was limited to 11.30pm last orders when surrounding venues were able to operate into the early hours of the morning.

But now the doors will reopen under general manager Roger Bell who originally opened the venue in 2014.

He will be joined in the venture by Eddie Gadd of GADDS’ Ramsgate Brewery  who will be providing his beers and Kiki Case who will be in charge of food and wine.

In a statement on The Ravensgate Arms facebook page Mr Bell said: “The pub will remain a free house and will be host to the best beer, wine and food the world has to offer. We will offer up to 10 keg lines and 3 cask lines served through hand pulls.

“The cellar will undergo a huge transformation which will directly result in better beer. We will have the best beer in Thanet bar none (maybe the Montefiore Arms). The wine will no longer be an after-thought, we’ll treat the wines we stock with the same scrutiny as we do the beers.

“The builders will be finished renovating the toilets and bringing the building up to code in the next couple of weeks, then we clean up and decorate, and then we open. I know the wait seems cruel but we’re making a pub we hope will last for many years to come.

“So please save the date, August 31st, and join us for a drink.”
