The Post Office wants your views on reopening a branch in St Peters

The Reading Street branch closed in June

The Post Office is proposing to open a service at The Village Newsagents, 12 High Street, St Peters.

Post Office services would be delivered from an open-plan till alongside the retail counter of the convenience store.

The opening hours would be Monday – Friday: 5.30am – 6pm; Saturday: 5.30am – 1pm; Sunday: 5.30am – 12 noon.

This would mean that the branch would open be open an extra 76 hours and 30 minutes a week, including Sunday morning. The branch would also open early every morning.

The branch previously at 30 Reading Street, closed temporarily in June due to the resignation of the Postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises.

The move would be part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

‘Important’

Michael Brennan, Network Operations Area Manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

  1. Yes definitely. somewhere where you can walk to instead of getting into the car and trying to park. Good for the elderly too. A post office is the heart of the village

  2. What a fantastic idea, a post office within the village , what a mistake to remove the one we had.
So well done to the newsagents in St. Peter’s High St for putting this forward.

  3. Maybe the Newsagents could share the parking facilities at the pub so as not to further disrupt local residents with “post office” parking? This is my only worry, that t will cause more congestion for local residents – other than that, it’s a fabulous idea.
