Open Christmas

Lunchtime meal and some Christmas cheer for all in the local community who would like to attend. There is food and company available for any who would otherwise find it difficult to have such a celebration over Christmas.

Thanet churches work on the organising committee for the event. During the week of Open Christmas they are supported by a team of volunteers from local churches and from the wider community.

Dates: Christmas Day and Boxing Day between 11am and 4pm and December 27 between noon and 2pm.

Thanet Winter Shelter is in operation throughout Christmas.

This year’s shelter involves seven church halls in Margate and Ramsgate opening their doors to provide shelter for up to 20 people each night, along with an evening meal, access to showers and bed and breakfast.

To be eligible for one of the 20 bed spaces each night, people need to be verified as rough sleeping and have been assessed under homeless legislation and have a connection with Thanet.

The scheme runs from December 1 to February 28, 2018.
