Students celebrate their IB results at Royal Harbour Academy

The Royal Harbour Academy is celebrating results for its Sixth Form results students with 90% of those who studied the prestigious International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme passing the qualification and 100% of students passing their BTEC qualifications.

There were some excellent individual performances:

Georgia Wilshaw passed the IBCP gaining D*D*D* in BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, a 5 in both Maths Studies and Social and Cultural Anthropology and a B grade in her Reflective Project. Georgia is going on to study Social Work at Canterbury Christ Church.

On results day Georgia said “I am extremely happy and proud of my results, I have had a fantastic Sixth Form experience. Outside of lessons I’ve had the opportunity to participate in great experiences such as work experience at Margate hospital and Age UK. I have also gained other qualifications whilst at Sixth Form such as a level 2 qualification in using a defibrillator and certification in First Aid. I am going to miss the teaching staff at The Royal Harbour Academy and the whole Sixth Form life however I feel fully equipped and am excited about my next challenge at university.”

Graham Turner passed the IBCP gaining D*D in BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Public Services and a D* in BTEC Level 3 Business Studies. Graham achieved a 4 in History and a 5 in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a C grade in his Reflective Project. He is going on to study History at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Bradley Hewitt passed the IBCP, achieving D*DD in BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services, a 4 in both Maths Studies and IT in the Global Society and a D grade in his Reflective Project. The teen is going to study Business Information Systems at Canterbury Christ Church.

He said: “I’m surprised at what I have achieved in the Sixth Form. I have worked hard and am so happy with the outcome. I already feel more confident about going to University knowing what I’ve achieved.”

Bradley’s mum added: “I am immensely proud of Brad and can’t believe how far he’s come; he will be the first person in the family to go to university.”

Head teacher Simon Pullen (pictured) said: “I am pleased with all the results and especially the success with the International Baccalaureate. In our third year of sitting the qualification not only did we have a very good pass rate but Maths Studies, Social and Cultural Anthropology and IT in a Global Society all had average grades above the world average.”

Ollie Donohoe, Head of Sixth Form, said: “I am pleased with the results and am very proud that along with the good grades, all those students who have applied to university have won a place. Whether the students are going to university, starting an apprenticeship or going straight into employment, they are equipped with the qualifications and skills to be highly successful post 18.”.

Linda Regan, Head of the International Baccalaureate Programme, added: “I am very proud of all the students who have worked so hard over the past two years. They have had a huge impact in the life and running of the school and I wish them well with their next steps and in their future careers.”
