Thanet council will fork out £800 to replace fence stolen from Ramsgate play park

Cllr Fairbrass says the theft is 'outrageous'

Thanet council says it will have to fork out £800 to replace a fence stolen from a play park in Ramsgate.

Nearly all of the fencing has been stolen from the Warre Rec park off Newington Road.

All that remains of the fence are the posts and a few panels.

Ramsgate dad David Copeland photographed the sorry looking park yesterday morning (January 29).

The park was also targeted last year when vandals destroyed the fencing in July, just two months after it had been installed.

Thanet council deputy leader Lyn Fairbrass has branded the theft “outrageous”

She said: “”It is incredibly disappointing to see that the fence has been stolen from the children’s play area of a public park.

“As a council we are legally responsible for ensuring play areas are enclosed. The fence was only installed last May and was subsequently vandalised in July when we spent over £250 on materials and staff time to repair it.

“It is absolutely outrageous that we have now seen the area vandalised for a second time in 12 months. This isn’t a victim less crime, it has a knock on effect. The money we’ll spend to fix it, which is estimated to be £800, means funds will be diverted from other planned improvements.

“Unfortunately, this kind of activity takes place under the cover of darkness but we would ask all local residents to be vigilant and in the event of any such incident we’d urge people to report it to the police as soon as possible.”

  1. We the people demand more Big Brother cameras, more surveillance, we all want to be microchipped, owned by the banksters, “morgelloned” with chemtrails… Long live the NWO.

  2. I’m surprised the council paid for the fence and not asked the public for funds to pay like the Cecil sq fiasco with the Xmas tree where the public paid thanet council sucks!

  3. It would be nice to be able to go to the play park with my youngest but since the demise of the old swimming pool, there is nowhere to park. I have raised this with several councillors and the best answer was walk your children to the park. I would love to but I am disabled. The Warre Rec was gifted to the people of Ramsgate for leisure activities. What part of leisure activities a fire station provides I have no idea. I am surprised that the Ramsgate society didn’t block this one..
I was told that the council got £1 million for the sale of the old swimming pool. The plans for the car park were approved nearly 4 years ago yet the council have wasted the money on other things such as paying the £4 million compensation bill for stopping live animal exports or wasting it on Dreamland.
Lots of improvements to the facilities in the rec but nowhere to park. Still, as there are only two parking wardens in Thanet I guess that you will be pretty unlucky if you get a ticket..
