Thanet council pledge to cover road sweeper absence in Birchington

Litter crackdown

Temporary arrangements have been put in place to clear litter in Birchington, says Thanet District Council.

Complaints of overflowing bins and discarded rubbish in the village have been made since the dedicated road sweeper went on long-term sickness leave.

A TDC spokesman said: “While we wait for the member of our team to return to work from sickness and to cover his general duties we have the following temporary regime in place:

Mechanical sweeper visits every day first thing in the morning

The bins are being emptied each day by the mobile zone team with any noticeable litter being cleared

“Additionally, a manual sweeper will be placed in Birchington daily rostered from our existing cleansing team, as we do not have the resources to cover his duties using agency workers.”
