Infant pupils at St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School in Ramsgate came together to say thank you to ‘Buddy’ the Golden Retriever for another lovely year.
Buddy is the Reception Class’ pet who greeted all new pupils on their first day of school in September. He became their friend and caring companion, listening to their joys and sorrows without complaint.
Buddy helps the little ones count, he plays in class with them and occasionally clears up any dropped food!
He also looks after the children who are sad and listens to them read their books.
The school uses Buddy to teach pupils to respect and love God’s Kingdom, help children who are afraid of dogs to love safe dogs and learn how to dispose of animal waste sensibly and safely.
Buddy is also shared with the nursery and junior pupils.
In return ‘Buddy’ is given lots of treats from the children and staff and gets cuddles on demand.
Head teacher John Letts said: “Children queue up to walk Buddy. He is never short of a cuddly toy to play with and so many balls to chase and retrieve!
“He has his own Christmas sack full of goodies from staff and children as well, as his own Christmas card display.”
