Ramsgate Micro Museum appeal for volunteers

The Micro Museum in Ramsgate

An appeal is being made for volunteers to join the team at the Ramsgate Micro Museum.

The venue, in Church Hill, is dedicated to all things digital from vintage computers to games through the decades.

Owners Mike and Carol Deer are planning extra opening hours for this year and hope to expand the team.

Carol said: “Because the museum is an independent business, we are unable to seek volunteers through the usual channels which are available to charitable organisations, so we are asking for help via the press and other media.

“As always, we do things a bit differently at our museum – at the heart of it is our own private collection of vintage computers, games consoles and other related technology which we love to share with visitors as a way to teach about how we got to our modern digital world.  It is very much a labour of love for us.  Any profit from admissions goes back into improving the museum for our visitors.

“We currently have a small team of volunteers who contribute much of their spare time and their many talents to help us in our continuing mission.  In our 2018 season we will be opening to the general public for extra days and additional team members would make it much easier to deliver the best visitor experience we can.”

To be a volunteer all you need is an interest in the subject and a willingness to learn a bit about the exhibits and history.  You can start slowly and, if you wish, Carol and Mike would be happy to allow you to develop any special interests to enable you to take a greater part in the organisation and running of the museum.

Carol added: “Our team members are so important, with individual experiences and interests which they contribute to help every visitor enjoy every visit.”
