Five hammocks stolen from the new ‘forest school’ area at Dame Janet primary will be replaced thanks to big-hearted residents.
Members of the Friends of Ramsgate Seafront group have teamed up with Councillor Beverly Martin to buy replacements.
The group is donating £100 and Cllr Martin another £150 to make the purchase.
The hammocks were stolen by heartless thieves sometime during the weekend. They unbolted the hammocks which were put in place during a six-week project during the Summer holidays to create a ‘woodland’ area for the children.
Head teacher Sam Atkinson said children and staff at the school had been devastated by the break-in.
Following an article by The Isle of Thanet News yesterday (October 19) pledges of help came forward from readers including Jemma Channing who offered to donate a hammock she had and then from FORS and Cllr Martin.
John Davis, from FORS, said: “Having learnt about this despicable theft FORS community members wished to help given our ongoing project to restore Dame Janet’s memorial at Winterstoke Gardens. We are pleased to be able to do so with match funding from town councillor Beverley Martin who has a longstanding interest in children’s welfare.”
Dame Janet business manager Daniel More said: “On behalf of everyone at the school, we’d like to express our thanks for such a kind thing. We were honestly devastated that someone would do this to such a great facility. So, it’s great to know we have support around us. Thanks once again!”
