Pupils at seven Thanet schools to perform seven Shakespeare tales in Margate

Pupils from seven Thanet schools will take to the stage at the Theatre Royal in Margate as part of the world’s largest youth drama festival.

Youngsters from Dame Janet primary, Dane Court, St Anthony’s, Chatham and Clarendon, Bradstow, Palm Bay primary and St Peter’s juniors will perform in the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

The event involves students from primary, secondary and special schools uniting on stage for the celebratory finale of a six-month journey.

Cultural education charity Shakespeare Schools Foundation (SSF) has recruited more than 1,000 schools across the country to perform as part its annual festival. Some 30,000 students will get the chance to perform in one of 136 professional theatres across the UK with 292 performance nights taking place between October and December

SSF targets students and communities who stand to benefit the most from engagement with the arts. The unique performances build vital life skills in participants and inspire a lifelong interest in culture and the arts across the whole community.

The seven Thanet schools will each bring an abridged Shakespeare tale to the stage over two nights next month.

Programme Manager Pam Hardiman said: “This is a festival of young talent performing for their friends, relatives and Shakespeare lovers alike. Whatever your age you’ll love these performances. A great value for money evening out.”
