Police warning of fake £20 notes in Thanet

Retailers have been warned of fake £20 notes in Thanet

Fake £20 notes are circulating in Thanet.

Kent Police has received two reports in the past couple of weeks of counterfeit notes handed over to retailers in Ramsgate and have reason to believe there may be more of them in the local area.

PC Cy Walker said: “This is a busy time of year for shoppers and fake notes can be very hard to spot. Our advice is to check the feel of the paper, the raised print, metallic thread and watermark.

“Shopkeepers are always encouraged to use a UV light to check for authenticity.

“If anyone suspects they have picked up a fake note they should not allow it to go back into circulation and any incidents should be reported immediately to Kent Police by calling 101. Alternatively call Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
