Police warning following daylight burglary in Westgate

Polive have issued a warning

Officers investigating a burglary in Thanet are reminding people to ensure their homes are kept secure during the summertime.

It was reported between 7.30am and 8pm on Wednesday 16 August a box containing jewellery including rings and a Pandora bracelet was stolen from a property in Sea Road, Westgate-on-Sea.

The jewellery box, described as cream-coloured leather, has since been recovered but the jewellery remains missing.

Senior investigating officer Detective Sergeant Richard Allen said: “This burglary took place during the day and we believe the suspect entered through an open window.

“Burglaries of this nature are rare in Thanet but nevertheless we want to remind people to take steps to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime.

“Make sure windows and doors are secure before leaving a room unattended.

“Consider installing CCTV or burglar alarms which you can connect to your windows and doors.

“Marking your property will make thieves less likely to take them as they will be aware they can be traced and it will be difficult for them to sell the goods on.

“It is also worthwhile keeping a record of your valuable belongings by taking digital photos of the goods, as it will assist in recovering the items back to their rightful owner, should they be stolen.”

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident, and ask that anyone with information contacts Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting ZY/38401/17.
