Officer attacked in St Laurence graveyard discharged from hospital

A police officer who was attacked and knocked unconscious in St Laurence churchyard last night (February 2) has been discharged from hospital.

Emergency services  were called to Manston Road after the officer was reported to have been knocked out after being assaulted by a group of people in the graveyard at about 9.50pm.

It was reported that one of the people who assaulted the officer may have been in possession of a firearm and armed officers attended the scene as a precaution. No firearm was discharged.

He was treated at the scene for a head injury and taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Kent Police is conducting ongoing enquiries  into the incident and officers remain at the St Laurence graveyard.

Officers carried out searches of the area last night with assistance from the National Police Air Service helicopter.
