A new planning application to convert former The Knot pub in Westgate into four. 1-bedflats, three. 2-bed flats and three letting rooms, together with a micropub on the ground floor and three townhouses has been submitted again to Thanet council.
Planning approval was gained last year to retain the existing Beach Road public house, The Knot, and convert it into apartments, a microbrewery and room lets for the brewery.
A revised application was then submitted in June this year asking for changes including:
- Increase the size of the northern stair core to allow for ease of access
- The north-eastern side of the roof will be lifted to allow for a 3 bed loft apartment, with its own balcony.
- Extra car parking spaces have been added to allow for the extra apartment
- Landscaping has slightly changed to allow for cycle storage
- The material for the circulation cores has changed to a yellow brick to blend in with the surrounding brick built houses and the approved townhouses near the site.
- Internal entrance arrangements to Units 3 & 5 have changed to accommodate the extended circulation core.
- Existing site features have also remained such as the retaining wall around the southern stair core. This has been increased.
- Sun tunnels have also been introduced in unit 2.
Last year’s application also had approval for three townhouses to the rear of the site. These were not included in the June application as the land was under different ownership.
However, the townhouses are included in the latest submission from Alistair Noel of Citinests Westgate Ltd along with a request for some changes in materials and parking arrangements to the last application.
The latest application was validated by Thanet council last week. A decision is yet to be made.
