Michael Caine movie with scenes shot in Margate hits the cinema screens

A movie by veteran actor Michael Caine and Charlie Cox filmed in Margate in June last year is now in isle cinemas.

King of Thieves, based on the Hatton Garden jewel heist in 2015 by an ageing gang of crooks, stars Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Ray Winstone, Charlie Cox, Michael Gambon and Tom Courtenay.

The film, directed by James Marsh, was released yesterday and is being screened at cinemas including the Vue in Westwood, Granville in Ramsgate and Carlton in Westgate.

Movie legend Michael Caine and Charlie Cox filmed in areas of Margate including the Stone Pier and the Nayland Rock Hotel.

The star, who takes the role of robbery gang boss Bryan Reader, took a break from filming to chat to residents and sign autographs while shading from the sun under a pink umbrella and  stopped for a spot of dinner at local restaurant Mullins Brasserie.

Michael Caine, 85, last filmed in Margate for the 2001 film Last Orders with Ray Winstone and Bob Hoskins.

The locations team for the movie worked with Thanet council’s film department.
