Margate’s RNLI inshore lifeboat was called into action late last night (Friday 22 September) after reports of a person in distress in the sea off Westgate-on-Sea.

The lifeboat was tasked by UK Coastguard to assist Kent Police who were responding to a female in distress in the sea at St Mildred’s Bay, Secamb personnel, and Margate’s coastguard rescue team also responded.

Initially the person could not be found and a search of the shoreline was carried out using searchlight and parachute illuminating flares. The person was discovered by the shoreside responders at West Bay after which the lifeboat returned to station.

There is currently no information regarding the person’s condition.
